THE STORY BEHIND OUR “BREAD RISING OVER MUD BAY” T-SHIRT
On a cold winter evening in the mid-’90s down on Mud Bay, the old bakery was very chilly and the bread was taking a long time to rise. The bread baker on duty that evening was Craig August, who also happened to be an artist. While waiting on the loaves and to pass the time, Craig took a piece of cardboard and drew the image of the bread over the bay with a Sharpie marker.
Timothy Pinto (Ozzy) was the bread slicer at the time, and an up-and-coming graphic printing enthusiast and entrepreneur. Ozzy appreciated what an iconic image it was and made a screen print of it. He has created the T-shirts you see before you.
Says Craig about his image: “I did a lot of drawings and writing sitting out by the brick oven, waiting for the bread to rise. Many early mornings watching the sun rise on Mud Bay — simple times. No phones or social media to distract from what was happening around us, just experiencing the moment…. I’m honored that my little drawing has lived on and become a part of Blue Heron history.”
